Join a trek for conservation in the rainforests of Malaysia. Make a difference by participating in anti-poaching projects in the Sungai Yu Wildlife Corridor. The corridor connects Titiwangsa range to Taman Negara. You will work alongside a local team to track clues of human activity in the forest, ultimately to reduce poaching. You will also look for animal tracks from elephants, tigers, tapir, sun bears, gibbons, and more. The info is recorded by GPS and gives important insight into the success of the wildlife corridor.
As part of this program, you will also have the wonderful experience of foraging and camping with the Batek people. The tribe is still very much connected to the rainforest and it will be an absolute honour for you to spend time with the people who have called it home for centuries. This is a chance to learn bush and survival skills, so you may learn to cook in bamboo, or sleep under a traditional shelter. This project enables them to earn an income using their traditional skills, as their forests are threatened by clearing for plantations.
Finally, you will have an exciting opportunity to join a local limestone cave excursion team to explore the many caves. The caves offer a chance to discover species that have not yet been documented or even named scientifically. By visiting these caves, you are helping to protect them from development which is necessary to protect the wildlife that inhabits them.
